Tagline: Relationships trump over possession or hobbies every time
"All You Need Is Love."
Really???
That’s all you need??? What of
Money, comrades, laughter and fun,
Cycling, rowing, squash, or a run?
Steak and chips, or ham and eggs
A good wine, whisky, or beer kegs.
Landrover, e-Type, Camper or Bus
Some might be asking „What’s the fuss?“
For one it’s the cottage on the Riviera,
For another the mansion in the Sierras.
But don’t be misled, don’t be confused.
These are all items, things to be used.
They’re not replacements for emotions deep
They‘ll cause you pain and lose you sleep.
A passing moment, a fleeting joy
Not boy meets girl or girl meets boy.
That’s depth of need, the deepest want
Not a passing kick or a sexy flaunt.
Who sold you out, who led you astray?
Who taught you wrongly to keep love at bay?
Love’s what matters and Faith and Truth,
Hope in the other, not permanent youth.
Commitment and faithfulness steadfast and true
You love me and I love you.
Through thick and thin and good and bad
Well remember it all, the laughter, the sad
Times, the right and the wrong.
What didn’t kill us made us strong!
So yes, they were right, the Liverpool four
You might want for better, or yearn for more.
But if in the midst of your blackest hour
If they stand with you and lend you power
They hold you and comfort and shed some light
That lessens the burden at the depth of night.
Then you are blessed beyond compare
For far too few have journeyed there.
So look at yourself in the glass
What isn’t human, let it pass.
Learn to love people and use things,
Get that wrong and love will take wings…

Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI would put love behind security and basic needs - but it is undeniably very important. And you are so right on the value of relationships/versus things.
Thank you so much. Our world really is very materialistic!
DeleteA nice poem for this challenge, very convincing. People are definitely more important than things.
ReplyDeleteThanks Olga. Glad you agree!
DeleteExcellent poem with a message!
ReplyDelete"They hold you and comfort and shed some light

Possessions won't do that for you. ☺
Thanks Debbie, they certainly won't!
DeleteSo lovely! Love is powerful and you've captured it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteHigh praise. Thank you Jemi!
DeleteGood Morning,
ReplyDeleteYour poem is powerful, revealing the advantages of opening oneself up to something money cannot buy.
Excellent! Love it.
Shalom aleichem
Thank you Pati. I knew you'd agree. Thanks for loving it.
Delete"Learn to love people...get that wrong and love will take wings." The ending especially resonated with me. A very powerful poem full of strong sentiments. Very fitting for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI agree :)
DeleteThank you both. It's an rule I try to live by.
DeleteYour arguments are well presented and that too in the form of a lovely poem. I like these lines particularly, "So yes, they were right, the Liverpool four
ReplyDeleteYou might want for better, or yearn for more"
Thank you - I think those are my favorite lines too!
DeleteA powerful reminder of all that's wrong in the world today: "Learn to love people and use things."
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Thank you Michelle
DeleteThis is a wonderful poem! The rhyme and flow is excellent, and you make some wonderful points. It's fine to enjoy material things, but they are not a replacement for love.
ReplyDeleteHigh praise indeed. Thank you.
DeleteGreat take on the prompt. We could all do with a reminder to use things and love people. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
DeleteHi Carole - wonderful poem of life ... we do need to think positively about everything, however difficult - there's always another way. Love is everything ... we just need to remember it. Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilary. Always appreciate your comments.
DeleteThanks for this poem. A reminder that all the other things are not much if love isn't baked in.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pennie. Yes, a house full of "things" can be very cold.
DeleteI really enjoyed your poem, Carole. It was entertaining from the beginning but then developed into something deep and thought-provoking. Material things don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Our connection to people is more important. You did a good job of explaining what true love really means.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Anstice. I take that as a great compliment.
DeleteWhat a great poem. I enjoyed reading this.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it Sally
DeleteFascinating. I enjoyed the many layers in this poem.
ReplyDeleteA very valuable lesson indeed.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem. We need many things but without love, what's the point.
ReplyDeleteNancy
So many people do put possessions first. You really did a great job with this one. So many people need to read it and learn from these words.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day! My latest blog post has my theme for the April #AtoZChallenge (I'm writing speculative fiction and looking for prompts).
At Operation Awesome we have the #PassOrPages query contest going on (friends or enemies to lovers Romance).
Looks like I'll be very busy the next few weeks!
March quote: "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do." - Mark Twain
Love, acceptance, respect, appreciation - so many needed things, not to mention the necessities but love will always top them all. Well said!
